Yurts are affordable and elegant.
They are a low-impact and environmentally conscious mobile dwelling that still provides all the comfort and beauty one desires in a home. They are much more cost-effective than conventional housing while providing unique comforts only experienced when within a circular living-space. They’re perfectly adaptable for both the nomad and the grounded. No matter where they are setup, they bring a sense of tranquility and beauty to that place.

The Folk Arts & Ecology Guild is a small collective of artists, builders, land-stewards, ecologists and craftspeople. As a collective, we believe in the elegance of folk creations and we trust in the sophistication of folk knowledge and technologies.
People have continually refined and developed expert skills of craft and ecological wisdom through eons of change, learning, and adaptation. We engage this continuum by learning and sharing simple, accessible, community-scale technologies and designs. We’re all masters and apprentices to each other. It‘s only through experiential exchange that we can both pick up and pass on what we all need to make it through this world. Check out other guilds too:

While we are continually inspired and devoted to the yurt as a living structure, the yurt is a traditional Mongolian cultural dwelling. For this reason we strongly encourage those able to do so, to purchase your yurt from ethnically Mongolian sources such as:
Supporting the ability for traditional people all over the world to practice their cultural crafts and technologies is essential.
Yurt is a Turkish word for what Steppe people call a Ger (pronounced Gher). Yurts have been a distinctive feature of life in Central Asia for at least three thousand years. It is suggested that the Indo-European nomads (mostly Indo-Iranians) were the first that used yurts and similar tents in Central Asia and parts of Russia and Ukraine. The first written description of a yurt used as a dwelling was recorded by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus. He described yurt-like tents as the dwelling place of the Scythians, a horse riding-nomadic nation who lived in the northern Black Sea and Central Asian region from around 600 BC to AD 300.
